Flight School

We are proud to announce that the Flight School will commence in term three this year (2017). Prestige Flight School will be managed by ‘Professional Flight Centre’. Professional Flight Centre was established in 2006 by Mr Andre le Roux who is the owner of the school and has operated four different Flight Schools successfully for the last 11 years. These Flight Schools are operated from Eldoraign, Garsfontein, Kempton Park and Montana High Schools. The Flight School offers every student the opportunity to grow through discipline, perseverance, inner strength, self-control and dedication.

The Flight School boasts with several achievements of which the most outstanding is that it produced the youngest female pilot in the world- Marcelle Nienaber, who did her solo flight at age 15 in 2013. The age where you can do solo flight has since been changed. Peter Barnardo is the youngest commercial pilot at age 19 and also obtained his instructors rating at 19. This performance alone is evidence of our commitment to our students.

The theoretical flight training for Gr8-Gr11 will take place at Prestige College on a weekly basis by qualified instructors. The practical flying will happen at Professional Flight Centre Wonderboom by qualified pilot instructors. To become a Private Pilot or be able to acquire a PPL, a learner needs 8 Theoretical subject examinations written online as compiled by Civil Aviation. The subjects are: Air Law, Aircraft Technical and General Knowledge, Human Performance and Limitations, Navigation, Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Flight Planning, Radio (Restricted) 

The Civil Aviation exams at Professional Flight Centre can be written when the learner is at least 15 years old. The learner then has 3 years from the last examination date for his/her PPL practical flight exam completion. The pass rate per subject is 75%. A base camp is also undertaken annually for pupils in grade 8, 9 and 10 where flight safety, survival and basic discipline are the fundamentals of the camp. Learners receive a certificate at the end of the year for attending the camp. Each student involved in the school at the end of the year will receive a progress report at the Academy Merit function
